Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Sales Engineer to manage and develop customer relationships across the North UK territory (North England, North Wales and Scotland). This role focuses on providing technical and commercial support to customers, identifying new opportunities, and driving sustainable growth through a consultative, solutions-led approach.

You will act as a trusted technical partner to customers, working closely with internal sales, product management, and our franchised manufacturers to support design activity, resolve technical challenges, and convert opportunities into long-term business.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical background in board-level electronic components who enjoys customer-facing work, building long-term relationships and supporting customers in component specification and supply.

Key Responsibilities

Territory Management: Manage and develop a portfolio of existing customers while identifying new opportunities across the North UK region.
Technical Sales Support: Provide application-level support, product selection guidance, and technical input during customer design and qualification phases.
Customer Engagement: Attend customer meetings, site visits, and design reviews to understand requirements and propose appropriate solutions.
Opportunity Development: Identify new projects, applications, and growth areas within existing and prospective accounts.
Collaboration: Work closely with internal sales, product managers, quality, and engineering teams to deliver coordinated customer support.
Supplier Liaison: Support supplier introductions, joint visits, and technical presentations where appropriate.
Reporting: Maintain accurate records of activity, opportunities, and forecasts within internal systems.
Market Insight: Feedback market intelligence, competitor activity, and customer trends to the wider business.

Candidate Profile

Essential:

• Proven experience in a technical sales, applications, or field sales engineering role, ideally within electronic components and high-reliability markets.
• Demonstrable background and strong technical understanding of electronic and/or electromechanical components.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both engineering and commercial stakeholders.
• Experience managing a regional territory and working autonomously.
• Commercial awareness with the ability to support pricing, negotiation, and opportunity conversion.
• Full clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly
• Experience selling into defence, aerospace, space, rail, or industrial sectors.
• Familiarity with qualification standards, approvals, or harsh-environment applications.

Role Overview

The Internal Sales Representative will play a key role in supporting customers and driving sales growth within Charcroft’s distribution business.

Reporting to the Sales Office Manager, you will work closely with the external Business Development team, suppliers, and customers to prepare quotations, process orders, and provide exceptional customer service.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a proactive attitude and strong communication skills who enjoys building relationships and working in a fast-paced, technical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales Support:

• Act as a key point of contact for customers via phone and email.
• Prepare accurate quotations and follow up proactively to convert opportunities into orders.
• Process customer purchase orders efficiently and accurately.
• Provide product information, lead times, and pricing to customers in line with company policies.
• Work closely with the Business Development Managers (BDMs) to support customer accounts and new business opportunities.
• Maintain and update customer information and communications within the CRM and ERP systems.

Supplier Liaison

• Liaise with suppliers to obtain pricing, lead times, and technical data for quotations.
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure timely and competitive responses.
• Support purchasing with order tracking or queries as required.

Sales Administration

• Ensure all quotations, orders, and communications are accurately recorded.
• Monitor and follow up on open quotes and opportunities.
• Support sales reporting, pipeline tracking, and performance metrics as requested by the Sales Office Manager.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to ensure a seamless customer experience.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Experience in an internal sales, customer service, or commercial role (preferably in manufacturing, distribution, or engineering).
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills..
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple customer accounts.
• Good IT skills including Excel, Outlook, and ERP or CRM systems.

Desirable
• Understanding of components, part numbers, and basic technical terminology (training provided).
