High Reliability Interconnect Solutions - Company Overview
High Reliability Connectors for Test & Measurement Applications

HDL Series Signal Connectors

HDL connector are foot-print compatible with many ZIF connectors, for Test and other applications where frequent mating and unmating is required. A dust cover on each half of the connector housing reduces contamination and the positive wiping action of the patented hyperboloid contacts helps to prevent pins bending during mis-alignments.

The unique Hypertac socket ensures a low insertion and withdrawal force, with low electrical resistance and excellent performance under vibration. The connector is supplied with a cable clamp, extra polarising and crimp contact terminations. A finger operated jackscrew provides positive ® mating with 180° operation

H Series Modular Connectors

Designed for high-density test applications, H series Mixed-technology connectors can replace multiple discrete signal, coax and power connectors by integrating as many as 775 Hyperboloid contacts into a single connector housing, or 2200 contacts in double-frame versions.

This can reduce the total size of a test rig by up to x4 as well as lowering overall cost and improving reliability. The insertion force, and time, needed to mate a single H series connector is significantly lower than the force required to mate multiple D-type or DIN41612 parts and a half-turn lock mechanism means that securing an H series part is quicker than conventional jackscrew terminations.

Programming Applications

The H Modular System is comprised of two basic elements: Modules and Mounting Frames: Modules make up the connector elements of the system. Three styles of contacts are available, signal, power and co-ax. These contacts are housed in plastic blocks which can be built up into many varied permutations and fixed securely within a frame. The frame can range from a basic one which consists of 2 side rails and 2 end caps, up to a more complex version with 1/2 turn mating devices, jackscrews, hoods, cable clamps, etc. Frames are available in various standard lengths.

High Reliability M12 interconnect system

Within industrial automation, there is a trend to miniaturisation: the design of motors, electrical drives and adjuster units are becoming lighter and smaller. The challenge for the designers is to guarantee higher transmission reliability, while maintaining the same data transfer volume and avoiding any transmission interruption and correspondingly higher risk to the entire system.

Hypertac has developed its new M12 interconnect system especially for those applications. The new signal connectors fit perfectly into sensitive industrial applications working under shock and high vibration impacts, where failure is not an option and expensive proximity switch breakdowns are not acceptable.

Hyperboloid Technology - High Performance Contact System

Hypertac has an advanced contact design that satisfies performance requirements previously considered impossible. The shape of the contact sleeve is formed by wires strung at an angle to the socket’s axis. When the pin is inserted into this sleeve, the wires stretch around it, providing a number of linear contact paths.

Features Benefits
Low Insertion/Extraction Forces - The controlled angle of the socket wires allows tight control of the pin insertion and extraction forces. The spring wires are smoothly deflected to make line contact with the pin. High Density Interconnect Systems - Significant reductions in size and weight of sub-system designs can be achieved by employing Hypertronics high density connectors with a large number of contacts that do not require additional hardware to overcome mating and un-mating forces.
Long Contact Life - The smooth and light wiping action minimizes wear on the contact surfaces. Hypertac Contacts perform up to 100,000 insertion/extraction cycles with little degradation in performance. Low Cost of Ownership - In applications that require frequent connector mating cycles, Hypertac will surpass almost all product requirements, thus eliminating the burden and cost of having to replace the connector or the entire subsystem.
Lower Contact Resistance - Contact resistance is largely a function of contact area and surface condition. The multiple line contacts in the Hypertac provide far greater contact area than other contacts of comparable size. The wiping action of the wires insures a clean and polished contact surface. Tests have shown Hypertac contacts have about half the resistance of conventional contact designs. Low Power Consumption - The lower contact resistance of the Hypertac contact results in a lower voltage drop across the connector which reduces the power consumption and heat generation within the system.
Higher Current Ratings - The design parameters of the Hypertac (e.g., the number, diameter and angle of the wires) may be modified for any requirement. For example, the number of wires (no fewer than 5) can be increased so the contact area is distributed over a larger surface of the mating pin. Thus, the high current carried by each wire because of its intimate line contact, can be multiplied many times. Maximum Contact Performance - The lower contact resistance of the Hypertac reduces heat buildup; therefore Hypertac contacts are able to handle far greater current in smaller contact assemblies without the detrimental effects of high temperature.
Immunity to Shock & Vibration - The low mass and resultant low inertia of the wires enable them to follow the most abrupt or extreme excursions of the pin without the loss of contact. The contact area extends 360 degrees around the pin and is uniform over its entire length. The 3 dimensional symmetry of the Hypertac contact design guarantees electrical continuity regardless of the direction or intensity of external or internal forces. Reliability Under Harsh Environmental Conditions - Harsh environmental conditions require connectors that will sustain their electrical integrity even under the most demanding conditions such as shock and vibration. The Hypertac provides unmatched stability in demanding environments when failure is not an option.
