Cornell Dubilier Electronics, Inc. (CDE) and Cornell Dubilier Marketing, Inc. (CDM) are privately held, American owned manufacturers of capacitors for electronic and electrical equipment with three ISO-9001 registered facilities. It was founded in 1909 by William Dubilier with his invention of the mica capacitor, you wouldn't suspect that CDE is the oldest capacitor maker in the Western Hemisphere because it is growing rapidly with a flurry of new products. CDE's and CDM's major capacitor types are aluminum electrolytic, polyester film, polypropylene film, mica, pulse, snubber, motor-run, motor-start and high voltage capacitors. Emphasis is on serving the power electronics markets and providing not just reliable capacitors but capacitor solutions with great service.
CDE and CDM have become the pre-eminent, worldwide suppliers of capacitors for power electronics. Principal markets are renewable energy, power supplies, motor drives, HVAC, motors, welding, aerospace, telecom, and UPS systems.

Medium Power Film Capacitor for DC Filtering to 1000 Vdc
Cornell Dubilier announces availability of type 945U medium-power film capacitors for dc filtering. It’s an excellent choice for DC-link inverter applications needing lower bus capacitance, high ripple current with long life and reliability. The 945U’s higher voltage, current ratings and package style allows it to replace aluminum electrolytic capacitors in DC Link applications that can use lower bus capacitance as is typically the case with inverters designed for wind energy, solar and fuel cell applications supplying the grid. “The 945U uses the same package and terminal styles as screw terminal aluminum electrolytics making the transition from aluminum to film an easier one” says Ken Thompson, Product Marketing Manager at Cornell Dubilier Electronics. Capacitor ratings are available up to 500µF at 600 V, 320µF at 750 V, 220µF at 900 V and 160µF at 1000 V. The aluminum case is 77mm in diameter, electrically isolated from the capacitor, in heights of 80, 105, 131 and 156 mm with ¼ -28 threaded insert terminals with an optional M12 mounting stud on the bottom.
New SMD Aluminum Polymer Capacitor Series
CDE Introduces Two New SMD Aluminum Polymer Capacitor Series with High Temperature Solder CapabilitiesCornell Dubilier announces availability of types SPCX and SPSX surface mount aluminum polymer capacitors for DC/DC converter input and output applications. Both series are designed to handle up to 260°C solder temperatures used in the manufacture ROHS compliant circuit boards. Type SPCX is the most economical series in a low ESR package. Capacitance ranges from 100µF to 470µF in voltage ratings from 2.0Vdc to 6.3Vdc, with ripple current capability of 2.7A at 105°C. Type SPSX has less than 9 milliohms of ESR allowing it to handle 3A of ripple current at 105°C. Capacitance values range from 82µF to 470µF in voltage ratings from 2.0Vdc to 6.3Vdc. Both types are supplied in a surface mount molded package with the same footprint as a D size tantalum capacitor in a very thin profile of 1.9mm. Applications include but are not limited to DC/DC converters for audio/visual equipment, computers, and home appliances, optical and measuring equipment.
High Current Film Capacitor for DC Filtering to 1400 Vdc
Cornell Dubilier announces availability of type 944U high-current film capacitors for dc filtering applications up to 1400 Vdc. Packaged in a low profile cylindrical black plastic case, it has earned the nickname of “hockey puck” style capacitor. Available in 800, 1000, 1200 and 1400 Vdc, capacitance ratings range from 33µF to 220µF with rms current ratings up to 75 Amps at 55°C. The UL94V0 flame retardant case is 84.5 mm in diameter, with mounting flanges at the base. Case heights of 40, 51 and 64 mm are available with M8 threaded stud terminals or M5 threaded inserts. “The large diameter, low profile and low inductance winding gives this package very high current capability. Their high current ratings and robust mounting flanges make them ideal for inverter applications in electric vehicles” says Ken Thompson, Product Manager. Other applications include solar and wind inverters and motor drives.
Power Film Capacitors for Next Generation Inverter Designs
Datasheet
DC Link capacitors provide bulk energy storage and ripple filtering for inverter applications. Many inverters are designed with excess aluminum electrolytic capacitors across the bus in order to handle the ripple current. Type 947C Power Film capacitors have higher voltage and current ratings allowing them to replace complex series-parallel combinations of aluminum capacitors. The 947C series capacitors are ideally suited as DC Link capacitors for wind, solar and fuel cell inverters.
High-density ultra-long-life capacitors for holdup and filtering
Flatpack aluminum electrolytic capacitors provide high-density storage in power hold-up applications for DSCC and other long lifetime, RoHS-exempt applications. Housed in compact packages with a half-inch profile and lengths from 1.5 inches to 3.0 inches, these flatpacks offer significantly higher power-density than screw-terminal packages. They can be heat-sinked to double their rated ripple capacity and both package options offer capacitance values up to 47,000 μF. The aluminum-housed MLP operates up to 85˚C with rated voltages up to 450 Vdc. The stainless steel-case housed MLS operates to 125˚C with rated voltages up to 250Vdc.
