April 7, 2011 —Vishay Intertechnology today introduced a new series of HI TMP® TANTAMOUNT® surface-mount solid tantalum chip capacitors that are the industry’s first such devices to offer a capacitance value of 10 µF at 12 V or 21 V and 500 hours of continuous operation at +200°C, without the need for voltage derating. The closest competing device offers a maximum operating voltage of only 5 V.

By providing much higher temperature capabilities than the industry standard +150°C or +175°C, the TH5 provides designers with a price competitive and reliable option for very high-temperature applications. The capacitors are optimized for oil exploration and drilling sensing systems; industrial applications related to the control of high-temperature materials; safety-critical industrial tools and products; and automotive applications.

The TH5 series is offered in a molded package in the 7.3 mm by 4.3 mm E case size (EIA 7343-43) with a 4 mm profile. The devices offer an operating temperature range of - 55°C to + 200°C, and capacitance tolerances of ±10 % and ±20 %.

100 % surge current tested, the capacitors feature gold-plated terminations. The RoHS-compliant devices are suitable for high-volume automatic and manual pick-and-place equipment, and are capable of withstanding lead (Pb)-free soldering reflow conditions.

Samples and production quantities of the new TH5 series are available now, with lead times of 12 to 15 weeks for larger orders.

W Case Size Enables Higher Capacitance, Saving Board Space and Lowering Costs.

May 2, 2011 —Vishay Intertechnology today announced the addition of the new W case (EIA 7361) for its popular low-ESR TR3 high-capacitance, high-voltage molded tantalum chip capacitor. Measuring 7.3 mm by 6.0 mm, with a height of 3.45 mm, the new case size allows for capacitance and voltage range expansion beyond the existing A through E case sizes.

Following Vishay’s recent release of 63 V and 75 V tantalum capacitors, the introduction of the low-ESR TR3 W case version underscores the company’s commitment to offering best-in-class ratings featuring robust designs with maximum voltage and the highest capacitance available in the industry. Vishay will be releasing W case size versions of all its molded tantalum capacitors in the coming months.

By utilizing the W case capacitor, designers can reduce the component count in applications where they previously used multiple components in parallel to achieve large bulk capacitance for energy storage. This saves board space, reduces costs, and improves reliability in telecom base stations, data storage and high-end computing, industrial computers, automotive, and military applications, in addition to medical instrumentation, and more.

Vishay’s molded tantalum capacitors offer a package suited to more requirements and applications in all market segments, such as DC/DC output filtering in high-density boards or low-voltage distributed power boards.

The RoHS compliant low-ESR TR3 is suitable for high-volume automatic and manual pick-and-place equipment, and is capable of withstanding lead (Pb)-free soldering reflow conditions.

Samples and production quantities of the low-ESR TR3 molded tantalum capacitor in the W case size will be available in Q2 2011, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.

Vishay’s TANTAMOUNT® CWR06 and CWR16 Solid Tantalum Chip Capacitors Now Available with MIL-PRF-55365 “T”-Level Failure Rate for Space-Level Applications

Vishay announce that its CWR06 and CWR16 TANTAMOUNT® solid tantalum chip capacitors are now approved to the “T”-level requirements of MIL-PRF-55365 for space-level applications.

To establish reliability for a T-level rating, Vishay’s CWR06 and CWR16 undergo additional testing, tightened raw material control and production lot definition and control, as well as Weibull level C or D failure rate, and 100 % C surge at - 55°C, + 0°C, and + 85°C. In addition, the capacitors receive a 100 % visual and x-ray inspection, destructive physical analysis (DPA) and report, and 2,000-hour life test prior to shipment.

For high-reliability applications, the CWR06 offers a capacitance range of 0.10μF to 100μF over voltage ratings from 4 WVDC to 50 WVDC, while the CWR16 offers a capacitance range from 0.33μF to 330μF over voltage ratings from 4 WVDC to 35 WVDC.

Both devices feature an operating temperature of - 55°C to + 85°C, + 125°C with voltage derating, in eight case codes (A through H). The capacitors offer capacitance tolerance of ±10 % and ±20 % standard, with ±5 % available, and maximum ESR down to 0.9Ω at 100 kHz.

Offered in tape-and-reel packaging per EIA 481, the CWR06 and CWR16 feature RoHS-compliant gold-plate terminations standard, with solder plated and hot solder dipped terminations also available.

Production quantities of the T-level-rated capacitors are available now, with lead times of 20 weeks for larger orders.
