KEMET Offers High Voltage Large Case Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors For Higher Reliability Applications
KEMET Corporation, today announced its KEMET Power Solutions (KPS) High Voltage (HV) SM Series capacitors. Designed to meet robust performance standards required in higher reliability industrial applications, the KPS family of devices utilizes leadframe technology to isolate the multilayer ceramic component from the printed circuit board.
“KPS technology provides advanced mechanical and thermal stress performance,” said Bill Sloka, Specialty Product Manager. “KPS SM Series devices are engineered with robust chip designs for higher reliability applications.”
KPS HV SM Series devices offer up to 10mm of board flex capability and exhibit lower ESR, ESL and higher current discharge capability when compared to other dielectric solutions. Available in both formed “L” and “J” lead configurations, these products offer additional screening options, including Group A and Group B testing/inspection per MIL-PRF-49467.
Typical markets include power supply, LCD fluorescent backlight ballast, HID lighting, telecom equipment, industrial and medical equipment/control, military and downhole exploration. Typical applications include switch mode power supplies (input filters, resonators, tank circuits, snubber circuits, output filters), high voltage coupling and DC blocking, voltage multiplier circuits, DC/DC converters and coupling capacitors in Cuk converters, noise reduction (piezoelectric/mechanical), circuits with a direct battery or power source connection, critical and safety relevant circuits without (integrated) current limitation and any application that is subject to high levels of board flexure or temperature cycling.

KEMET Introduces FO-CAP Combining Flexible Termination with Open Mode Chip Design Technology
KEMET Corporation today announced the addition of the FO-CAP to its Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC) flex solutions portfolio.
The FO-CAP combines two existing KEMET technologies–Open Mode Chip Design and Flexible Termination. The Open Mode component utilizes
an internal electrode design which minimizes the possibility of a short circuit condition if mechanically damaged (cracked).
The Flexible Termination component utilizes a conductive silver epoxy in order to establish pliability while maintaining terminal
strength, solderability and electrical performance. The combination of these two technologies provides the highest level of
protection against the onset of mechanical failures that may occur during extreme environmental or handling conditions.
“KEMET’s FO-CAP addresses concerns for more flex-robust and reliable products in automotive and general electronics applications,” said
Tim Hollander, KEMET Specialty Product Manager. “This proven technology is available in commercial and automotive grade, and provides
superior flex performance and improved reliability while minimizing the risk of a catastrophic and costly failure.”
Flexible Termination technology was developed to address flex cracks, the primary failure mode of surface mount MLCCs. This
technology directs circuit board stress away from the ceramic body and into the termination area, therefore reducing the risk
of mechanical damage to the component that can result in low IR or short circuit failures.

X7R Automotive Grade High Voltage Ceramic Capacitors
KEMET today announced its new Automotive Grade High Voltage Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors. Qualified to the Automotive Electronics
Council’s AEC-Q200 standard, these surface mount capacitors are available in X7R and C0G dielectrics from 500VDC to 3000VDC.
“KEMET is the first manufacturer to offer a complete range of Automotive Grade High Voltage Ceramic Capacitors,” said Bill Sloka, Specialty Product Manager.
“These components are ideal for high growth segments within the automotive market such as electric and hybrid vehicles, charging stations for plug-in vehicles as well as
vehicle lighting applications.”
Whether under-hood or in-cabin, KEMET High Voltage Automotive Grade parts emphasize the vital and robust nature of capacitors required for mission
and safety critical automotive circuits. Stricter testing protocols and inspection criteria are applied to these products to ensure reliability in
potentially harsh environmental conditions. KEMET Automotive Grade capacitors meet all AEC-Q200 qualification requirements and are manufactured in
state-of-the-art ISO/TS 16949:2002 certified facilities.
The High Voltage AEC-Q200 X7R dielectric is also available with the option of KEMET’s Flexible Termination System (FT-CAP). Designed to reduce
ceramic chip failures, this technology directs circuit board stress away from the ceramic body and into the termination area, therefore lowering
the risk of mechanical damage to the component that can result in low IR or short circuit failures.
